stress，underline も「強調する」という意味の他動詞です。イギリスでは emphasise とつづります。
よくある誤り
動詞は他動詞：× emphasize on the importance → ○ emphasize the importance
on を使うのは名詞：○ put (place) emphasis on ～「～を強調する」

名詞 emphasis の複数形は emphases です（crisis → crises と同じ）。influence と同じく，動詞は直接目的語，名詞は on と覚えましょう。
