term には，①「用語；言葉」，②「期間；学期；任期」，③ terms「条件」，④ terms「間柄，付き合い」という意味があります。

① “Gene” is a scientific term.
「遺伝子」は科学用語である。

② The second term starts in September.
2学期は9月に始まる。

③ They agreed to the terms of the contract.
彼らは契約の条件に同意した。

④ I’m on good terms with my neighbors.
私は近所の人たちと仲がよい。

「区切られたもの」がイメージです。意味を区切って定めた言葉が①，時間を区切ったものが②，契約の範囲を区切ったものが③です。in the long term「長期的には」は②の意味です。

in terms of ～ は「～の点で；～の観点から」，be on ～ terms with 人 は「人と～な間柄である」，come to terms with ～ は「～（つらいこと）を受け入れる」という意味です。

In terms of price, this model is the best.
価格の点では，このモデルが一番よい。

It took her years to come to terms with her father’s death.
彼女が父親の死を受け入れるには何年もかかった。
